Whoopies - two discs of cake sandwiched together by a frosting - were originally a lunchbox favourite for Pennsylvanian Amish farmers.

Dawn Foods has produced a recipe sheet to show caterers how to create their own versions of the trendy cakes using Dawn Baker's Select Cake Mixes, Frostings and Icings.

There are seven just-add-water cake mixes, including plain, chocolate, chocolate crème, toffee (with toffee pieces), and orange, lemon or strawberry with real fruit pieces.

Frostings include vanilla, chocolate, toffee, strawberry, lemon, coffee or cream cheese; while icings come in orange fudge, lemon fudge, strawberry fudge and coffee fudge options.
