Ribstock cook-off to determine UK's best rib chef
Ten of the UK's best rib chefs and restaurants will be competing for the title of Great British Rib Champion 2012 in Soho this Saturday at Ribstock, the latest food event run by Tweat Up, the Twitter-based, eating-oriented meet-up group founded by bar and private members' club owner the Rushmore Group.
Ribstock, which will be held in St Anne's Churchyard in Soho, is the brainchild of Mark ‘The Ribman' Gervaux, who sells his rib meat rolls at Brick Lane each Saturday.
"When I started at Brick Lane over three years ago, I was the only person selling proper, slow-cooked ribs in London," said Gervaux. "BBQ is going to
be the biggest thing in food in 2012, with so many great new places opening, so it's timeto find out who really cooks the best ribs".
The ten battling it out for the title include Michelin-star chef Ben Spalding, Jamie Oliver's BBQ restaurant Barbecoa, street food specialists The Ribman and Lucky Chip, steakhouse Goodman and UK BBQ champion Andy Annat.
Their efforts will be blind tasted by a panel of judges made up of restaurateur Russell Norman, TV chef Gizzi Erskine, and Rushmore Group owner Jonathan Downey.
Ribstock also offers guests the chance to sample the UK's best chilli sauces in its Hot Sauce competition, a mini-beer festival stocked with craft beers brewed within the M25, and a cocktail bar run by Soho speakeasy Milk & Honey.
Sponsors of the event include Chapman Ventilation, hospitality design consultancy Harrison, Inka Charcoal Grills, Primo Grills and pork-curing specialist Cherryfield (Croydon).
Tickets for Ribstock are available from www.ribstock.co.uk ](http://www.ribstock.co.uk)and more details can be found on [@Tweat_Up](Tweets by ).
Tweat Up also organised last October's [UK Chilli Stand Off](http://www.chillistandoff.com) while Ribstock organiser Peter Butler was the man behind December's [Mince Pie Project ](http://www.themincepieproject.com)charity auction.
