Locally sourced strawberries from Brakes

As well as following the strawberry season around Britain to secure national supply, Brakes has set up its first pilot schemes with regional growers to satisfy demands for fresh, locally sourced produce.

As the English season kicked off in the South-west in mid-May, Cornish caterers will be the first to benefit from this scheme, getting the first pick of the Elsanta strawberries grown on Trevarnon Farm in Hayle, which produces 100 tonnes a year. They're picked and taken each morning taken to Brakes' Bodmin depot, which will deliver the following day all orders placed by 4pm.

The group's Aylesford, Highbridge and Dundee depots will also supply local caterers with strawberries grown within 20 miles when the fruits are ready and will return to Hayle in September and October for the second crop. The minimum order is for four 400g punnets.
