New all-day café Fields to open on Clapham Common this August

Fields, a new 30-cover café from the owners of M1LK in Balham is set to open at the end of this month.

Julian Porter and Lauren Heaphy who opened the all-day business M1LK in 2011, will launch a ‘big sister' café on Rookery Road, five minutes' walk from Clapham Common tube.

Fields will offer an all-day menu, speciality coffee and freshly baked cakes, which will be served from 8am to 10pm, with emphasis on local produce and suppliers, including ingredients from its own roof garden and plant nursery. Porter and Heaphy will put large focus on its coffee offering, serving speciality coffee from Workshop Coffee Co and Koppi of Sweden.

The 30-seat will be able to serve an additional 80 covers outside.

Porter said: "We have always wanted to make the food we would want to eat ourselves on our days off. Food that's exciting, thoughtful and technically driven, but ultimately delicious; served by people who are genuinely interested in what they do, in an affordable local space that our friends would feel comfortable in."

Dishes will include peat-smoked mutton and beans, garden herb butter and sourdough, with its own on-site smoker to contribute to the menu flavours. Sweet options include sticky rice pudding, apple, soured cream ice-cream & sake. Prices of dishes will range from £5 to £10 for larger dishes.

Porter continued: "Clapham Common offers a beautiful location and Fields is the perfect place to make that happen."

Fields, with its intimate space will feature Lauren Heaphy's own artwork, as well as local artist's pieces on the wall. The owners have invited local graffiti artists to exhibit their work on the building exterior. Julian Porter, originally from Australia, met partner Lauren Heaphy, in Oxford, at drama school, Lauren currently works as an actor and artist.
