Lydia Mellor of Ivy Market Grill awarded Rothschild Rising Star Award
Restaurant manager Lydia Mellor of the Ivy Market Grill in London's Covent Garden has been awarded the Rothschild Rising Star Award from the F&B Managers Association of London.
Mellor was presented with her award during an event held by the association at the RAC Clubhouse in Pall Mall.
Finalists were required to present their ideas for a new food and beverage business and attend interview sessions with the judging panel at Waddesdon Manor, the UK home of the Rothschild family.
Judges said Mellor faced tough competition but they were impressed with her business idea, ‘Enfant Terrible'.
Mellor said: "It was a rooftop restaurant and bar with a concept that was young and interesting and pushing the boundaries.
"I even showed the judges naked artwork that would be included in the business during my pitch. I wanted to have fun with it."
Mellor is only the second winner of the award and she hopes it will encourage more people to consider a career in hospitality.
She said: "The Rothschild Rising Star Award is great as it pushes people to learn and shows that people do want to do this job as a proper career."
As part of her prize Mellor has won a trip to Bordeaux to take part in the Mouton De Rothschild harvest.
