El Celler de Can Roca comes to London
The three-Michelin-starred El Celler de Can Roca is coming to London as part of a worldwide tour in the coming months and will reside in Piccadilly's Hotel Café Royal for four days.
The Roca brothers, who run the restaurant in Girona, Spain, will lead the kitchen at the pop-up on 2-5 August 2016 and are bringing almost the entire El Celler de Can Roca team with them.
The menu will include El Celler de Can Roca favourites as well as new dishes inspired by London using local produce. The dinners will take place in the hotel's Domino restaurant and have been in planning since March, when the team initially travelled to each location to gain insight into the local gastronomy, identify the best ingredients for the tour menus and promote local producers.
During the tour, the Roca brothers will also select two culinary students from each of the cities they visit to undertake a four-month internship at the restaurant in Girona. All travel, accommodation and food expenses will be covered by El Celler and Spanish financial services company BBVA.
The tour is part of a promotional initiative by BBVA and will also be stopping in Hong Kong, Phoenix, San Francisco and Santiago de Chile. Tickets are being offered only to invited guests, however there are likely to be giveaways.
Joan Roca said: "We are excited and aware of the enormous responsibility involved in the challenge of traveling around the world with our team. My brothers and I see the BBVA Tour as a sincere tribute to some extraordinary cuisines that are also so different from each other. This cooking trip allows us to add our grain of sand by training hundreds of hospitality students who, just like us, see cooking as a means of expression, a way of being."
The first BBVA-El Celler de Can Roca tour in 2014 visited the US, Mexico, Colombia and Peru. In 2015, the tour went to Europe, the US and Asia.
