Angela's of Margate unveils little sister Dory's

The team behind Angela's of Margate is opening a new seafood bar and takeaway in the seaside town this week.

Dory's will serve oysters and small plates and sell local produce, including fresh and smoked fish, vegetables, wine, beer, fruit and cheese.

Seafood restaurant Angela's, opened in November 2017 by owners Lee Coad and Charlotte Forsdike and chef Rob Cooper, won the Best for Sustainability award in the 2019 Waitrose Good Food Guide for its "impeccable sourcing, minimal waste and pared-back cooking".

Cooper said Dory's was targeting the local Margate community with its low-waste, sustainable-shopping ethos and would use no plastic packaging, reusable containers and counters made from recycled plastic bags.

"It will be different to Angela's: casual and informal, no reservations, counter-stool seating and open all day," he said.

Dishes on the menu will include smoked prawns, pickled herrings, asparagus tart, salt cod brandade, cured salmon, scallop tartare and Whitstable oysters.

"Angela's has been brilliant," said Cooper. "We're proud to be part of Margate."

Reviewing Angela's in the Mail on Sunday last month, Tom Parker Bowles described a dover sole dish as "the best I've ever eaten".
