Philip Steiner has been appointed general manager of the 161-bedroom Bankside hotel in London’s South Bank.
Having studied Hospitality Management at the International Hotel School in the Hague, Steiner started his career at Rome Cavalieri, followed by several years with Hilton and then Starwood hotels in the Netherlands via facility management firm ISS.
Moving to the UK in 2014, he took on the role of director of hotels for ISS, looking after the back of house services for more than 150 UK hotels.
Since joining Cycas Hospitality in 2018, he took on the role of director of accommodations and serviced apartments, before becoming general manager for Moxy & Residence Inn by Marriott Slough.
Steiner said: “I am thrilled to be joining the team at Bankside. The hotel has such strong links with the local community and artists – especially through its Artist in Residence programme – and this new role presents a unique opportunity for me to combine my hospitality experience with my passion for art and my fascination with the London cultural and hospitality and food scene.”
Cycas was appointed to manage the hotel earlier this year, its first luxury property, following the hotel's acquisition by Vertiq Capital, which took on the hotel from an affiliate of the Realstar group of companies and joint venture partner Amerimar Enterprises. On its appointment, Cycas made Zac Pearse general manager of Bankside.
Apurva Pratap, managing director of Cycas Hospitality, said: “We are delighted to have appointed Philip as general manager at Bankside. Over the past few years he has proved himself an invaluable member of the Cycas team, and we look forward to seeing how Philip continues to build on the success of this vibrant hotel, maximising its full potential in 2023 and beyond.”
