Future of luxury Kinnaird hotel hangs in the balance
The future of Scotland's Kinnaird Estate lies in the balance, after owner Constance Ward announced her intention to retire from the hotel business.
Ward will now enter into a 30-day consultation period with her staff to seek ways of continuing the Relais & Chateaux property in its current form and no decision on closure will be made until after this period has expired.
A source told the Sunday Times: "Everyone is in the dark. At the moment the hotel is open for business but we do not know what the future is. It could be sold, it could be returned to its former state as a private house or it could be relaunched as a weekend lodge."
The hotel, which has been owned by American heiress Ward and operated as a hotel since 1990, is housed in an 18th-century mansion in 700 acres of Perthshire heartland.
The property is currently managed by husband and wife management team Anne and Max Schaeflein, previously of Gleneagles, while Jean-Baptiste Bady runs the restaurant.
