Edinburgh hotelier snaps up local guesthouse for £1.25m

Edinburgh hotelier Peter Sharma has bought the Afton Town House hotel in the city for close to the £1.25m asking price.

Sharma, who owns the Ballantrae hotel and the Ballantrae Apartments in Edinburgh's York Place, intends to upgrade the Afton into a quality small town house hotel.

The property currently trades as a B&B from 11 bedrooms and three spacious public rooms. It also has a three-bedroom flat.

The Victorian mid-terraced property is part of the Category B-listed Grosvenor Crescent in Edinburgh's West End. It is near both the city centre and the Haymarket railway station.

It was sold by the Edinburgh office of Colliers Robert Barry on behalf of Richard and Eleanor MacDonald, who are emigrating to Australia.
