Adagio aparthotel from Accor to launch in Edinburgh
Accor's aparthotel concept Adagio is to open its second UK property in Edinburgh.
The 146-apartment property will launch in 2017 in New Waverly, the new city centre district for Edinburgh at the heart of the historic Old Town. It follows on from the opening of the UK's first Adagio in Liverpool last year.
Built behind an existing facade facing onto the Royal Mile, the aparthotel will also have links onto a new public square with cafes and restaurants at the heart of the £150m, five-acre redevelopment site. New Waverley, which is being developed by Artisan Real Estate Investors, has been named to reflect the area's rich cultural history and its proximity to the Waverley Valley and the Scottish capital's main railway station.
Adagio, which is primarily aimed at long-stay visitors and offers studios, and one and two-bedroom apartments with kitchens, is the third hotel announced for New Waverley. Last year Whitbread signed an agreement to open two hotels within the new development: a 127-bedroom Premier Inn and a 130-bedroom Hub by Premier Inn.
Vangelis Porikis, Adagio director, Central & Northern Europe, said: "Adagio offers an innovative solution for urban tourism and one we are particularly excited to launch in Edinburgh. We are working hard with Artisan to ensure our new aparthotel is itself immersed in the history and culture of the city and gives our guests a base from which to enjoy this fantastic city and surrounding area."
Lukas Nakos, managing director of Artisan, said: "There has been huge interest in the site from hotel operators around the world, and I am pleased that an operator of Adagio's stature and pedigree has chosen to invest in the city.
Adagio now has 100 properties in eight countries.
