Acorn winners 2016: Murray Scott, 26
Front office manager, the Park Tower Knightsbridge, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Starwood Hotels
Nominated by Sue Finlay, hotel manager, Park Tower Knightsbridge
Proudest moment "Being offered my current role at the Park Tower was an absolute dream."
Greatest inspiration "My aunt is the general manager at a luxury hotel in the Far East and her attention to detail and focus on exemplary service has driven me to follow in her footsteps.'"
Ambition "I would love to be general manager of a well-respected luxury hotel and create an environment that feels like a home away from home."
Under his watch, the front office has continually busted targets, increasing the staff engagement score by nine percentage points to 80% and achieving the highest ever check-in 'friendly welcome' score in the Guest Experience Index since the survey began. In 2015, he was also part of the team that achieved the highest gross operating profit of any Starwood hotel in western Europe.
And his awards are pretty shiny, too, scooping - among others - the Rising Star of Scottish Hospitality from Catering Scotland Yearbook and the Hospitality Gold Medal in the Scottish Hotel Awards, both in 2014.
Scott has been with Starwood Hotels for 10 years, starting as a housekeeping casual at 16 and gaining experience at Turnberry and the Sheraton Grand Hotel & Spa Edinburgh.
His managers describe him as going "over and above" in recognising talented staff and giving them a platform to build on. Word is that his own potential could see him thrive in a more senior management role in the not-too-distant future.
