Compass Group awards Brakes distribution contract
Compass Group has awarded Brakes the UK's largest ever catering distribution contract.
The landmark agreement, set to begin in 2012, will see the foodservice supplier deliver over £300m worth of goods to 5,500 Compass sites across the UK every year.
The contract, which will run for a minimum of seven years, was awarded following an extensive two year strategic review by Compass of its supply chain and a competitive tender process.
Ian Sarson, group managing director at Compass Group said: "This contract is the first of its kind within the UK catering industry, creating a market leading proposition for Compass and our clients for years to come.
"It will enable us to further reduce our environmental footprint and will ensure we are able to continue serving products of the highest quality and freshness to our customers."
The partnership is expected to remove more than four million food miles from the caterer's environmental footprint in mainland UK. Brakes will provide Compass with a single multi-temperature delivery system and online ordering services which will be tailored to individual sector and client needs.
Philip Jansen, Brakes' group chief executive, and former CEO of Sodexo Europe, added: "By combining our industry expertise we will deliver great food, best in class logistics and excellent customer service."
