Trust hands out scholarship awards
The trustees of the Savoy Educational Trust have announced three winners of the Reeves-Smith Scholarship, awarded each year to help people wanting to embark on industry-related management training.
This year the scholarships, worth £5,500 each, have been awarded to three students and, in addition, two special awards of £1,000 have been handed to two other candidates.
The scholarship winners are George Williams, who is starting a three-year HND course in professional culinary arts at Birmingham College of Food, Tourism and Creative Studies; Richard Murray, who is taking a degree course at the London School of Economics followed by a postgraduate course in hotel management at Cornell University; and Laura Nutt, who is to undertake a BSc hotel and catering management degree course at Surrey University following a gap-year placement in the south Pacific.
Two special awards of £1,000 were also made to Clare Walker, who is studying for a BSc in hotel and catering management at Surrey University; and Celeste Ewins, who is taking a foundation year at Surrey University in biology, chemistry and maths. She hopes to follow this with a BSc degree course in nutrition.
