Rich pickings in Argentina
It is refreshing to find a wine made from a local grape which very few people have heard of. The grape is Torrontés, a white variety which is primarily identified with Argentina.
If you are looking for a full-bodied, dry and fruity white to sell at £8 to £9, this may be just what you want.
It has the richness of a New World Chardonnay and the aromatic qualities of a Sauvignon Blanc. On top of that it has the clean acidity which confirms up-to-date harvesting and carefully controlled vinification in a New World Wine.
The wine is labelled Torrontés 1994 and is made in Argentina by the Austrian-owned Bodegas Norton.
It is shipped by Berkmann Wine Cellars (0171-609 4711). The trade price is £42.72a case.
