Nigerian scam is widespread

Caterer has been inundated with calls from readers who have received correspondence from Nigerian fraudsters attempting to lure them into providing their bank details in exchange for fantastic sums of money.

It has become clear that there are many varieties of this scam. But all of them attempt to convince hoteliers that there is a large amount of money to be gained by helping with an illegal, but simple, transaction to take money out of Nigeria.

If you receive such an offer, the police advise you not to enter into correspondence, not to reply on company paper and not to disclose any bank details.

Although most callers have ignored these bogus offers, others have tried to play the perpetrators at their own game. Our advice is not to waste time by getting involved.
