Could I be a reception manager?

Question

I am a night manager at a three-star, 107-bedroom hotel. It is now up for sale and I'm not sure if I want to stay on. I don't have any relevant qualifications, but I do have three years' front office experience. I have not had much of a response from sending out my CV and I'm not sure where I should go from here.

Do you think I would stand a chance of being a reception manager? And is there anything I can do to enhance my CV?

You have put together a neat CV. I would suggest, though, that you accentuate any reception responsibility that you have undertaken in your current and any previous roles. Also, if you could add some information about your achievements as opposed to pure job responsibility this could help you sell yourself.

You have gained a lot of practical experience that will stand you in good stead for a move towards reception management. You could contact some hotels that you are interested in moving to directly. Send a covering letter to support your CV and state the reasons you feel you are ready for a move to a reception manager role.
