Tourism boost for Cardiff
CARDIFF City Council last week announced a £500,000 package of improvements to the city centre, aimed at promoting tourism and inward investment in the city.
The action is largely aresponse to the efforts of a group of restaurateurs campaigning as the Mill Lane Action Group to improve the environment in the city's burgeoning restaurant quarter.
The group, which was formed in 1992, recognised that Mill Lane was becoming a gateway for visitors and proposed a semi-pedestrianised boulevard where people could eat outside. Of the £500,000 being spent, £150,000 will be used to implement that proposal.
Many of the council's measures focus on crime prevention, the aim being to make the city centre feel safe.
