Wiltshire spirit-maker achieved a score of 124.4 for using its business as a force for good
Witchmark Distillery in Wiltshire has achieved B Corp certification, recognising ESG credentials and commitment to sustainability and ethical business practices.
With a score of 124.4, Witchmark is now the highest-scoring distillery in England.
To gain B Corp status, the distillery demonstrated its sustainable principles, including sourcing barley from Fonthill Farm, a local, regenerative agriculture system that supports biodiversity.
The whisky, gin and vodka-maker is located within the 9,000-acre Fonthill Estate in southwest Wiltshire, and houses a 5,000-litre wash still and a 3,200-litre spirit still.
Witchmark powers the stills with bio-liquid propane gas recovered from eco-fuel production from vegetable oils, estimated to be 40% more sustainable than fossil fuels. It also generates solar energy from a 100kW array on its warehouse’s roof.
Further eco-friendly processes include applying state-of-the-art heat recovery systems in the production process to reduce energy waste in the distillation process; implementing circular waste management sending spent grains, botanicals, pot ale and lees to a local anaerobic digestor for energy production; and ensuring packaging has the best possible environmental credentials, including using 100% recycled glass bottles with minimal environmental impact.
The firm also supports its local community via partnerships with organisations that align with its values and mission.
Alistair Munro, managing director, Witchmark Distillery, said: “Achieving B Corp certification with an outstanding 124 points is a monumental milestone for Witchmark Distillery. As a producer of premium whisky, gin, and vodka, we believe that great spirits should not only taste exceptional but also be crafted with integrity, sustainability, and social responsibility at their core.
“This certification reaffirms our commitment to implementing ethical business practices, environmental stewardship, and community engagement. Being part of the B Corp movement means we are held to the highest standards of transparency and impact, and we are immensely proud to stand alongside other businesses driving meaningful change.”
Other B Corp-certified drinks suppliers include Elephant Gin, Gosnells meadery and Tiny Rebel.
