The right food display cabinet for your hospitality site can boost sales significantly
Front of house display cabinets are the showpiece of many a hospitality site, whether they are proudly presenting sandwiches in delis, sweet treats in dessert chains or cold drinks in cafés. This is your chance to really make your products shine, with appealing lighting incorporated into many displays – LEDs are usually the most efficient.
But to select the right cabinet for you, you need to consider your usage requirements. Will you simply need a smaller, countertop display to showcase a few products, or do you essentially want the cabinet to be your counter, with larger serve-over models? Or floor-standing reach-in displays away from the counter can be most appropriate for grab and go sites and cafés.
Your next consideration should measure speed of service against energy efficiency. Cabinets with doors will usually be more efficient, keeping either hot or cold air in, but will slow down service compared to open displays. Weigh up whether you’ll need more of an ambient, chilled or heated appliance too, in terms of the space you want to dedicate – though for ultimate flexibility, some advanced cabinets can be partially chilled and partially heated, with little overspill between both.
Also, examine whether your set up will be more of a self-service or attended concept, as if customers need to frequently open doors, the display will need to be built to withstand constant use.
Unlike the majority of professional foodservice equipment, display equipment is often designed to be public facing and accessible to customers. As a result, it has different design requirements to equipment found in kitchens, often featuring open fronts or glass-fronted doors to provide visibility for the products contained within, whether refrigerated or heated. These multideck displays are common sights in supermarkets, newsagents, cafés, coffee shops and smaller locations, but are also increasingly finding homes in restaurants, particularly with the increase in the home delivery market. Heated multidecks in particular are an efficient way to store orders before delivery drivers collect them, helping to streamline the collection process while ensuring that the food is kept at the right temperature until it’s ready for delivery.
This kind of display equipment is suitable for a wide a variety of sites and applications, but there are also categories of display equipment that fill more specialist purposes, and manufacturers have created designs that can be a point of interest in restaurants and hotels. Climate-controlled wine cabinets are increasingly common sights in many businesses, allowing for high quality product to be kept in the perfect condition and allowing diners to inspect and select their choice of tipple in an interesting way.
Similarly, the growth in popularity for dry aged meat in recent years has seen many businesses invest in cabinets designed for this specialist purpose, as a great way to provoke customer interest in high quality and premium meat cuts. If you’re planning on using equipment like this to make a feature of a particular ingredient, looking for equipment with quiet fans, carbon filters to help remove odours and a combination of glass doors and LED lighting to promote interior visibility will help to show off anything stored within them at their best.
