Liverpool City Council launched a health and safety investigation following the 2022 death
Britannia Hotels is to be prosecuted in relation to incidents at the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool, following a health and safety investigation.
It is understood the prosecution follows an investigation launched by the council following the death of Chloe Haynes, 21, in 2022.
While a guest at the property she was found dead in her hotel room after becoming trapped under a heavy wardrobe, the BBC reports.
A Liverpool City Council spokesperson said: “We can confirm that following a health and safety investigation we have initiated legal proceedings against Britannia Hotels in relation to incidents at the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool.”
The first hearing is scheduled to take place at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on 7 May.
Britannia Hotels commented: “We can confirm that Liverpool City Council has initiated legal proceedings in relation to the Adelphi Hotel and we are fully cooperating with the legal process.
"Our sympathies remain with the families and loved ones of those involved. As this matter is now before the courts, it would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this time.”
