Chef Dom Taylor will launch The Good Front Room in a brand-new permanent site in Dalston following a successful residency at the Langham London
The Good Front Room is set to open on 5 February in London’s Dalston Square and will serve the ‘elevated Caribbean cuisine’ chef Dom Taylor showcased as the winner of Channel 4’s Five Star Kitchen: Britain’s Next Great Chef competition in 2023.
Taylor’s victory secured him a ten-month residency at the Langham, London, after which he launched a new restaurant concept called Marvee’s Food Shop in London’s Ladbroke Grove – which closed after just three months due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’.
Next month’s Dalston opening marks the first time Taylor has launched The Good Front Room in a permanent location.
The 80-cover restaurant will occupy the ground floor of Thomas Tower and serve classic Caribbean fare such as rum punch, jerk chicken and ackee and saltfish, as well as small plates including rum and raisin pork belly strips and maple, lime and chilli glazed plantain.
Taylor said: “The Good Front Room is inspired by my great-aunt Myrtle and the sacred front rooms found in so many Caribbean homes, spaces kept for special guests and layered with pride and memory.
“As a grandchild of the Windrush generation, I feel a responsibility to carry the torch and keep our stories, recipes, and traditions alive. Doing this now feels like the right moment to build something entirely my own, rooted in where I come from and led with intention.”
