It comes 10 years after the Malaysian Tamil restaurant brand opened its first London site
Roti King is set to launch its first regional restaurant in Brighton this May, 10 years after its London debut.
Roti King Brighton will offer 50 covers within a Grade II-listed building in the Lanes featuring Malaysian street art.
Dishes will include roti canai served with dhal, chicken, mutton or fish kari, as well as the Char Kway Teow – chewy rice noodles stir-fried with prawn and egg – and Malaysian fried chicken marinated in garlic, ginger and lemongrass.
Sugen Gopal opened the first Roti King as a stand at Oriental City in Colindale before launching his first permanent site in London’s Euston in 2014.
He has since expanded the brand across the capital to include sites in Battersea Power Station, Waterloo and Spitalfields, while his sister restaurant Gopal’s Corner also operates in five central locations, predominantly within branches of Market Halls.
Gopal said: “Brighton has always had a special place in my heart – there’s an energy to the city that makes it one of my favourite places to eat out in the UK. The Lanes, with its independent spirit and incredible food culture, feels like the perfect home for Roti King outside of London. I can’t wait to share our food with such a passionate and knowledgeable community.”
