The hotel giant will take over two Cheval Collection properties and develop a new-build on Princes Street
Marriott International is set to welcome its first Luxury Collection hotel in Scotland amid a trio of signings with property developer and hotel operator Christ Stewart Group.
The agreement will see two existing properties being repositioned as Marriott hotels, while a third is currently under development.
On 1 July, Cheval Collection’s Edinburgh Grand will join Marriott’s Luxury Collection to become the brand’s first property in Scotland. The hotel is situated within a restored neo-classical building on St Andrew Square, once home to the Royal Bank of Scotland.
Meanwhile, Old Town Chambers, another Cheval Collection hotel, will form part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection to offer serviced apartments within Edinburgh’s bustling Royal Mile. The Autograph Collection specialises in independent, upper-upscale hotels.
Both properties will be managed by RBH Hospitality Management.
Finally, the Colourist will open in 2027 under Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio brand for independent, boutique properties. The hotel will be located at the west end of Princes Street.
Paul Thomas, vice president, international hotel development, Marriot International – Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “This is an exciting moment for Marriott International as we expand our Collection Brands in one of Europe’s most storied cities.
"The addition of the Edinburgh Grand to the Luxury Collection is particularly significant, bringing the brand’s celebrated blend of heritage and high-end hospitality to Scotland for the first time. We’re proud to partner with Chris Stewart Group, whose local insight and commitment to excellence align closely with our vision.”
Chris Stewart, chief executive of Chris Stewart Group, said: “Joining forces with Marriott International allows us to elevate each of these properties while staying true to their individual character and the spirit of Edinburgh. This is a defining moment for our hotel portfolio, and we’re thrilled to share it with a global audience through three of Marriott’s most distinctive brands.”
Marriott currently operates more than 150 properties across the UK, including over 20 hotels in Scotland.
The Maryland-based hotel group has a portfolio of 30 brands in 144 countries and territories.
