The 14-cover restaurant Bear by Carlo Scotto was located in the Crazy Bear hotel in Beaconsfield
Bear by Carlo Scotto has closed after only three months of trading.
The 14-cover chef’s table, which is situated in the Crazy Bear hotel in Beaconsfield, opened on 15 October.
Crazy Bear hotel confirmed Scotto’s exit in a statement to The Caterer: “We can confirm that Bear by Carlo Scotto has closed following the chef’s decision to step away from the restaurant for personal reasons. We wish him all the best for the future.
“Crazy Bear hotel Beaconsfield and its other two restaurants, Hom Thai and the English Restaurant, continue to trade as usual along with the Stadhampton Crazy Bear. We are committed to investing in our 53-room boutique hotel group as we look to refresh some of our bedrooms and develop our food and beverage offerings further.”
Bear by Carlo Scotto was the chef’s first new opening since he left London’s Amethyst restaurant in June 2023.
Amethyst won four AA rosettes and received positive reviews but closed following Scotto’s departure after a year of trading due to “differences with his business partners”.
His restaurant at the Crazy Bear hotel was originally due to open in spring 2025, with Scotto appointed as chef patron of the new hotel restaurant in early December 2024.
Later that month, the Crazy Bear hotel group – which runs two hotels in Stadhampton and Beaconsfield – filed notice to appoint administrators after attempts to attract new investment failed.
The business was then bought out by the leadership team shortly afterwards.
