Third-party environmental agency has calculated the carbon data for manufacturer’s combi-oven range
Unox has joined forces with third-party environmental agency ImpactLoop to calculate the carbon footprint of its cooking equipment.
ImpactLoop has analysed that Unox’s Cheftop Mind.Maps Countertop Plus XEVC-1011-EPRM combi-oven has an embodied carbon footprint of 829kg CO2e and an operational carbon footprint of 3,419kg CO2e.
For this combi-oven range, the manufacturer undertook a life cycle assessment and TM65 mid-level assessments, which details the total amount of carbon emissions produced during the entire lifecycle of a product, including the amount of carbon dioxide released from the stage of raw materials being extracted from the ground, through to the manufacturing, use and disposal at the end of a product’s lifespan.
Unox’s Digital.ID platform built into its combi-ovens can facilitate efficiency by remotely monitoring its operation and putting its service teams in contact with end-users at the click of a button. This remote access can reduce travel mileage and therefore carbon emissions, with ImpactLoop calculating that – on average – a roundtrip in Unox’s electric Tesla Model X from its UK headquarters in Camberley to an example venue in Manchester would use 24kg of CO2e, and for a diesel-run Mercedes Vito Van, the same trip would – as an estimate – equate to 310kg of CO2e usage.
Unox UK managing director, Scott Duncan, said: “We are incredibly proud to be one of the first combi-oven manufacturers to complete a life cycle assessment. With our ongoing commitment to working directly with ImpactLoop, we look forward to providing more insightful reports to help businesses across every foodservice sector build more data-driven strategies to help them operate more sustainably.”
Radhika Chadwick, CEO at ImpactLoop, added: “With our technology, Unox will gain unparalleled visibility into the carbon footprint of its product, powering a more effective decarbonisation strategy and unlocking huge financial savings. Our partnership is about more than just reducing emissions; together, we are driving change within the commercial foodservice industry as we push for a greener, more responsible future.”
Unox was crowned as the Cooking Equipment Brand of the Year at yesterday’s The Caterer Supplier Awards.
The firm recently unveiled the Speed.Compact Eco accelerated cooker, designed for establishments where space and cost is at a premium.
