An operator-first mentality has seen this plant-based hygiene company experience rapid growth
BioVate Hygienics, which launched just four years ago, reached a seven-figure turnover within two years and now works with almost 7,000 customers – an impressive trajectory that makes it a standout winner of this year’s Sustainability Initiative of the Year.
The manufacturer of sustainable cleaning solutions works with a broad range of clients, from restaurants and universities to commercial sites across the UK, with its national presence extending to customers such as Soho House, Flight Club Group, Gaucho & M Restaurants, National Trust of Scotland and Nobu Hotel London Portman Square.
The past 12 months have seen BioVate deliver major sustainability initiatives, led by its Ecocert EcoDetergent certification. This globally recognised standard verifies products made with natural or renewable ingredients, responsible processes and sustainable packaging, with BioVate’s core range including high-performance biotechnology with more than 95% natural content, particularly natural colour dye and fragrances.
BioVate’s certified range meets stringent criteria for biodegradability, renewable sourcing and restricted petrochemical content. The recent introduction of a 1.5 litre concentrate pouch has reduced packaging by 75% compared with a traditional five litre container, while still producing 300 ready-to-use trigger bottles. This enables customers to eliminate hundreds of single-use plastic bottles and transition to a refill-and-reuse system.
In kitchen operations, BioVate’s dishwash detergent delivers full cleaning performance using only a quarter of the volume required by conventional products. This reduction in chemical use has cut associated carbon footprint across manufacturing, transport and disposal by 75%, significantly lowering the environmental impact of every wash cycle.
Across the range, formulations prioritise natural sourcing, rapid biodegradability, minimal toxicity and ultra-low volatile organic compounds (VOC), improving indoor air quality and reducing environmental burden through cleaner wastewater discharge. All products are supported by independent third-party assessment.
By using super-concentrated, plant-based products in compostable packaging, BioVate helps operators cut deliveries, reduce storage demands and meet sustainability goals.
BioVate has shown that sustainability works best when it is practical, inclusive and built into everyday operations. Its rapid growth, strong partnerships and measurable results make it a worthy winner.
“BioVate is a superb example of how to present and illustrate sustainability efforts, actions and results within, and for, hospitality. The innovative products are supported both by donated equipment to use its products and also to then educate its hospitality business customers on their impact.”
Carl Weldon, managing director, CW Hospitality
“BioVate stands out for delivering a compelling blend of innovation, independently verified evidence, measurable environmental impact and clear commercial viability within the judging period. What truly distinguishes BioVate is its ability to show that ambitious sustainability innovation can go hand-in-hand with strong commercial performance, underpinned by robust data and credible third-party validation.”
