27 Old Compton Street will offer casual ‘tavola calda’-style Italian dishes in Soho
Restaurateur Nima Safaei is set to launch his third London diner, 27 Old Compton Street, next month.
Opening on 24 March, the Soho restaurant will offer Italian dishes inspired by the country’s casual eateries, also known as ‘tavola calda’, meaning ‘hot table’.
It comes roughly two years after the founder and executive chef launched 64 Old Compton Street, sister site to the flagship 40 Dean Street, which dates back to 2009.
His latest outpost is rooted in the Italian local tradition of gathering round high tables with a bowl of fresh pasta and a glass of wine.
Dishes will include rigatoni amatriciana with pancetta and chillies; pumpkin, ricotta and sage ravioli; gnocchi with cavolo nero and pesto and pea risotto with broad beans and asparagus.
These can be paired to a selection of Italian wines and cocktails such as the Amalfi citrussy martini and the Italian Bloody Mary, the Pomodoro Piccante.
The restaurant will offer 30 covers over two floors and exercise a walk-in-only policy.
Safaei, founder of the trio of Soho restaurants, said: “The concept of ‘tavola calda’ instantly resonated with me - I wanted to create that spot for fast, high-quality food that doesn’t compromise on taste or flavour. 27 Old Compton Street will bring a slice of ‘la dolce vita’ to London and be a place where people can drop in effortlessly, knowing they’ll get incredible pasta, fab drinks and a buzzing atmosphere.
“I’m delighted to be adding another string to my bow as a restaurateur and to embark on this challenge. It’s a totally different space to my other two sites - but one that still feels undeniably Soho. I can’t wait to welcome everyone to 27 Old Compton Street!”
