E5 Bakehouse started in 2010 in east London and currently operates two cafés alongside a farm, mill and coffee roastery
East London-based bakery E5 Bakehouse has confirmed plans to launch a café at the V&A East Storehouse in Hackney Wick this May.
It will mark the third site for the independently-run group, which currently operates E5 Bakehouse in London Fields and E5 Poplar Bakehouse in Bartlett Park, as well as a farm, mill, coffee roastery and baking classes.
The café will feature earthy tones, bright colours and industrial materials, echoing the style of the museum’s Storehouse, which was designed by Diller Scofidio & Renfro.
The Storehouse is the first of V&A East’s two new sites to launch under the new arts and culture district located within the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Louise Lateur, managing director at E5 Bakehouse, which was founded in 2010, said: “We’re very excited to work alongside V&A East Storehouse teams to conceptualise E5 Bakehouse’s third café, E5 Storehouse. Alongside artisanal baking, E5 Bakehouse has always been interested in design and sustainability.
“We’re working closely with V&A East Storehouse to design a café that inspires creativity and communal dining. e5 Storehouse will operate as a café deli with our familiar pastries, bread and coffee, alongside a simple breakfast and lunch offering. The café will also host events and talks to be introduced after the initial opening period.”
Laura Parker, deputy director of V&A East, added: “We’re thrilled to partner with E5 Bakehouse at V&A East Storehouse to create an exciting and affordable café experience and vital third space where everyone is welcome.
“E5 Storehouse will complement the existing food and drink offer in the area, while offering delicious, great quality food and value for our visitors.”
E5 Storehouse will open on 31 May.
