The West Country-based hotel group remains a family-owned business
The Brend Collection has completed an “amicable” shareholder buyout as the hotel group looks to strengthen its portfolio.
Directors Peter, Matthew and Justin Brend, alongside chairman John Brend, bought Richard Brend out of the company. He now takes on sole ownership of the Royal hotel in Bideford, the Devon hotel in Exeter and the group’s car business, Taw Garages.
The rest of the collection remains within the family-owned firm, spanning properties such as the Saunton Sands hotel in Saunton, the Carlyon Bay hotel in Cornwall, the Victoria and the Belmont in Sidmouth, the Royal Duchy in Falmouth, and the Park, the Imperial and the Royal & Fortescue in Barnstaple.
The buyout comes after documents filed on Companies House revealed Percy R Brend & Sons (Hoteliers) registered a charge against its assets in favour of Lloyds Bank last month.
Percy and Florence Brend established the group in 1955 and over the last three years the portfolio has undergone a major rebrand.
Recent developments included the addition of Source Spa and Wellness centres at the Saunton Sands and Victoria hotels, while expansion plans are in place at the Carlyon Bay.
Peter said: “A sense of family has always been at the heart of our business, and nothing will change in that respect. It’s an ethos that drives everything we do – from our service philosophy to our most valued assets and our highly professional team.”
Matthew added: “We will continue to invest in our wonderful properties and are very proud of all that has been achieved over the last 70 years. We wish Richard Brend and his family all the best and every success with the Royal hotel, the Devon hotel and Taw Garages.”
