The 60 bedroom hotel will join the luxury Leonardo Limited Collection.
Leonardo Hotels UK and Ireland has acquired the five-AA-star Hotel Gotham in Manchester as part of its ongoing expansion into the high-end market.
The deal will see Hotel Gotham, which was originally designed in 1928 as the headquarters of the Midland Bank, join the luxury Leonardo Limited Collection of hotels.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed but the sale was supported by the Fattal Partnership Fund through Leonardo’s parent company.
Leonardo operates 54 hotels in the UK and Ireland, largely under mid-market brands including NYX Hotels and Leonardo Royal.
It began rebranding its Jurys Inn sites to Leonardo hotels in 2022.
Hotel Gotham is the latest addition to the group’s growing high-end portfolio, which it has bolstered with several acquisitions over the past six years.
These have included the purchase of Manchester’s 121-year-old Midland hotel in 2018, the 116-year-old Dilly hotel on London’s Piccadilly in 2022 and the 160-year-old Grand in Brighton in 2023.
Hotel Gotham Manchester was launched by Bespoke Hotels in 2015 and features 60 bedrooms, five suites, a two-AA-rosette restaurant and a rooftop private bar and members’ club.
Jason Carruthers, managing director of Leonardo Hotels UK and Ireland, said: “This acquisition further strengthens our presence in key city centre destinations and underscores our dedication to delivering unparalleled service and quality to our guests."
Ronen Nissenbaum, chief executive of Leonardo Hotels UK, Ireland, Benelux, Spain, Portugal and US development, said the group was looking to acquire more luxury properties going forwards.
He added: “We continue to source similar high-end hotel opportunities across the UK and Ireland and the rest of Europe, which is brimming with investment potential.”
