Unilever Food Solutions has launched new targets to help chefs reduce avoidable food waste and serve nutritious meals to more than one million people worldwide as part of the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan.
Over the next 12 months, Unilever Food Solutions aims to help chefs to reduce waste by at least 5%, by using its free Wise up on Waste mobile app. The company has also also made it easier for the industry to provide nutritious meals by creating partnerships with the World Food Programme, through which it will donate more than 150,000 school meals in 2013.
Tracey Rogers, managing director of Unilever Food Solutions, said: "We're doing this because we recognise that as both a business and individuals we have a responsibility to do things efficiently, effectively and sustainably.
"This year, we've pledged to do our bit when it comes to helping the industry tackle waste and health and nutrition, as part of Unilever's Sustainable Living Plan. It's a huge challenge, but one we're 100% committed to. We know that over time, and by working together as an industry, they can be achieved."
