Seafood industry stalwart Jon Harman dies

Dr Jon Harman, former trade relations in Northern Europe for the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) has died after a short illness.

Harman most recently supported ASMI promoting Alaska seafood in Northern Europe. He retired from Lotus PR last month.

The former chief executive of Seafood Scotland who graduated from London University with a degree in biology, had worked in the seafood industry for 35 years and covered all sectors of the industry including: pelagic, whitefish and shellfish sectors.

Having established the trade association, Seafood Scotland, he then went on to become a director of Seafish UK.

Rebecca Wilson, director of ASMI Northern Europe said: "With his extensive seafood experience we were proud to have Jon as our trade ambassador. His expertise and extensive industry network was highly valued by us and everyone in the Alaska seafood industry."

Sarah Johnson, CEO of Lotus, added: "Jon's enthusiasm for the seafood industry knew no bounds. His sudden death is a shock for us all. He will be sorely missed."
