The Belfry Hotel and Resort in Sutton Coldfield has begun a major £80m expansion and renovation project to boost its luxury events offering.
The development, which is expected to complete in autumn 2025, will see the construction of an 852 sq m event space dubbed the Masters Suite.
It will be designed to host 648 banqueting guests, with a maximum capacity of 920, as the hotel looks to host more conferences, weddings, and other events.
The space will have the capacity to be split into smaller areas and will include an outdoor terrace, boardroom and outdoor team building space.
An extra 80 electric vehicle charging points will be made available to guests and 149 bedrooms will be available to book in an adjoining building.
The Belfry is situated in a 550-acre estate which features a 319-room hotel and three golf courses. It is the home of the British Masters competition and has hosted the Ryder Cup four times.
Chris Eigelaar, resort director at the Belfry (pictured), said: “The commencement of work on site is a significant moment for the entire team at the Belfry after years of planning behind the scenes.
“Work on the new Masters Suite and the wider refurbishment is moving at quite a pace already, and it’s exciting to see the progress that’s made each day.
“We are experiencing increased demand for large events in the luxury venue market from both new and existing customers. The Masters Suite will allow us to accommodate major events that we haven’t been able to cater for before.”
The redevelopment has been in the works since Goldman Sachs Asset Management and Cedar Capital Partners bought the Belfry in 2021. The resort was previously owned by private equity firm KSL for almost a decade.
Other developments at the Belfry will include the launch of a new Leisure Club with a large pool, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, gym, four studios and a multipurpose sports area.
A refurbishment of the hotel’s existing bedrooms has already been completed, alongside the construction of two new outdoor events spaces and a bar and lobby.
Eigelaar added: “We’re looking forward to building on our reputation as an outstanding business, leisure, and golf destination.”
