Non-essential card spending increased by 2.7% in September, with the hospitality and leisure sector reporting a 5.1% uplift.
The hospitality and leisure sector reported a boost in September, according to the Barclays UK Consumer Spend Report, with a 5.1% uplift compared to the 3.8% year-on-year growth seen in August.
The report said the entertainment sector was predominantly responsible for this increase, with spend up 14.4% in September following the release of tickets for the highly-anticipated Oasis reunion tour next summer.
Spend on shows and concerts increased 35.8% year-on-year, despite 45% of consumers recognising dynamic pricing, where ticket companies raise prices when demand is higher.
Elsewhere, a number of blockbuster cinema releases drove growth in September, but spend in bars, pubs and clubs reported limited growth at 0.6%, compared to 3.2% in August.
Spend on at-home experiences also increased by 4.3% as the darker evenings begin to draw in.
