The latest hospitality venues to open their doors across the UK in September 2024
As the long summer draws to a close, hospitality businesses across the UK are preparing for new beginnings.
Following the closure of Pidgin, famed for its never-repeated tasting menus, Andrew Snaith and Hannah Kowalski are opening Sesta in its place in London’s Hackney, while Jamie Allsopp, the seven times great-grandson of the inventor of IPA, is set to launch the Blue Stoops pub in London’s Kensington, paying homage to his original family pub.
There’s also going to be entertainment in the form of Korean fine dining (Dosa and Mandarin Oriental Mayfair), jazz-infused Afro-Caribbean cuisine (Soul Mama and Gantry Stratford) and plenty more to come.

Ñako Martinez and Nico Buyo’s De Nadas is opening its third site in London’s Stoke Newington, following launches in Notting Hill and Shoreditch. It will offer a variety of Argentinian hand-shaped empanadas at its 20-cover shop, as well as alfajores (Argentinian shortbread biscuits), South American wines and vermouth.

The former Nordic-Japanese Pantechnicon building in London’s Knightsbridge has undergone a refurbishment to include new dining destinations Amélie, Sachi and Luum. Amélie offers Mediterranean flavours from head chef Steve Raveneau, formerly of Annabel’s and the Arts Club, while Sachi will serve Japanese flavours from culinary director Kyung-Soo Moon and head chef Joonsu Park. Luum is a Mexican-inspired cocktail bar and late-night lounge.

Irha and Jason Atherton have opened Sael in London’s St James’s Market. The 85-cover brasserie is headed by executive chef Dale Bainbridge, formerly head chef of the now closed Pollen Street Social. The restaurant pays homage to Pollen Street with the return of some signature desserts, including the jam roly poly with Jersey milk.

Food delivery service Foodhak has launched its first modern Indian restaurant in London’s Camden. José Fernandes, former head chef of Gunpowder and now executive chef of Jugad, has created a food-as-medicine style menu, offering dishes that are entirely gluten- and dairy-free. The 92-cover diner also has a 45-cover alfresco terrace.

Husband and wife team Sam and Alex Berry, who are behind Surrey restaurants No97 and Hideaway, have launched Cento Uno, a neighbourhood trattoria in the former site of One One Four in Teddington, south west London (also pictured top). The 64-cover restaurant offers local Italian flavours and weekly vinyl DJ sets.

Rik Campbell and Will Bowlby, founders of Kricket, have launched the second iteration of Soma in London’s Canary Wharf. The speakeasy, which debuted in London’s Soho in 2021, is named after the Hindu Moon God and offers a selection of drinks crafted by Kricket’s head of beverage, Will Rogers.

Leydi
Ennismore has opened Hyde London City in the Grade II-listed Spiers & Pond building in Farringdon, with interiors designed by Studio Moren. The 111-room hotel is home to ground-floor Turkish restaurant Leydi from chef Selin Kiazim and cocktail bar Black Lacquer, which pays homage to the LA clubbing scene. Hyde London City also features a Headliner Suite, which has five-metre-high ceilings, a private marble-topped bar and views of St Paul’s Cathedral.

Sam Lomas, the former head chef at Glebe House in Devon, is set to open his first restaurant at Number One Bruton in Somerset, the former home of Osip.
Lomas will serve a daily changing menu of small plates, snacks and sharing dishes showcasing Somerset produce from local suppliers such as Stavordale Dairy and Landrace Milling, as well as foraged ingredients from the hotel’s garden in Batcombe.

Parker’s Dubai has launched its first international outpost at Jumeirah Lowndes hotel in London’s Knightsbridge. The restaurant infuses global flavours to create a twist on classic dishes, with an all-day menu ranging from zaatar Benedict to Mac & Cheetos. It also serves its signature Matilda cake, which was inspired by Roald Dahl’s Matilda.

Chef Aaron Potter, previously of Trinity and Elystan Street, and interior stylist Laura Hart will be opening Mediterranean restaurant Wildflowers in London’s Belgravia. The 54-cover diner will feature vintage furniture, timber tones and an additional wine bar serving cocktails including Melon Negroni, Amalfi Spritz and Peschiole Dirty Martini.

Specialty coffee shop and roastery Kiss the Hippo has opened its ninth London site, in Soho. The space, which has been designed by London-based architects EBBA, features minimalistic interiors, timber lining and a coffee counter. It also offers a selection of pastries, cookies and focaccias.

Chef Alex Aitken has partnered with the Padstow Harbour Hotel to open the 60-cover Jetty Restaurant, Bar and Terrace. The all-day diner offers a seafood-driven menu sourced almost entirely from local fishermen and suppliers across Cornwall. Guests will be able to choose from a Catch of the Day roster featuring options such as whole Padstow lobster and Porthilly oysters.

Artfarm, the independent hospitality company behind Mount Street Restaurant and the Fife, is set to open Da Costa restaurant in Bruton. Located at Hauser & Wirth Somerset, the 74-cover restaurant will source seasonal ingredients from Durslade Farm to offer dishes combining British and northern Italian flavours.

Kyu Jeong Jeon and Duncan Robertson, chef-owners of Bokman, the small Korean diner in Bristol, are expanding their footprint in the city with new neighbourhood restaurant Dongnae. The pair will offer refined Korean cooking, with dishes paying homage to Kyu’s time living in Seoul. Guests will be able to choose between à la carte, traditional barbecue, hanjungshik (omakase-style Korean food, £55) and a lunch jungshik (set meal, £24) consisting of rice, soup, side dishes and kimchi.

Drew Snaith and Hannah Kowalski, formerly of Pidgin in London’s Hackney, are set to launch Sesta in its place. The pair first worked together at Jackson Boxer’s Brunswick House in London’s Vauxhall. The new 26-cover restaurant will offer twists on European classics using seasonal British ingredients.

Musician and philanthropist YolanDa Brown is set to open Soul Mama on the ground floor of the Gantry hotel in London’s Stratford. The new live music and dining venue will offer Afro-Caribbean cooking from executive head chef Aleandro Brown, who was previously at the Connaught, Maze Grill and Sketch in London’s Mayfair. Dishes will be available alongside a rotating programme of concerts and events, ranging from the London Jazz Festival to comedy shows.

Chef Akira Back is due to launch Korean-inspired fine dining restaurant Dosa in the newly opened Mandarin Oriental Mayfair. The chef’s table-only restaurant, named after the Korean word for expert, will hold 14 guests at a time, serving a tasting menu with dishes such as mulhoe – a fisherman’s chilled soup – as well as Hanwoo beef. Dosa first launched in Seoul and its UK outpost will be run by executive chef Jihun Kim, with prices from £185 per person.

Parogon Group, which operates across Staffordshire, Shropshire and Cheshire, is due to open its second Willow restaurant in Telford. It comes three years after the Mediterranean, all-day diner launched its first site in Trentham. The group was founded in 2007 and also owns the Swan with Two Necks in Blackbrook and the Orange Tree in Congleton.

The team behind Allsopp’s Brewery is due to launch the Blue Stoops pub in London’s Kensington. Founder Jamie Allsopp, seven times great-grandson of Samuel Allsop, who is believed to have invented India Pale Ale (IPA), will pay homage to the original pub of the same name in Burton upon Trent. The new Blue Stoops will serve three Allsopp’s cask ales alongside a selection of seasonal English food from chef-guide Lorcan Spiteri, founder of Caravel in London’s Regent’s Canal.
