Plans to rebuild Andrew Pern’s Michelin-starred Star at Harome have been lodged with Ryedale District Council after a fire extensively damaged the property last year.
Permission is being sought to make external and internal alterations to restore and refurbish the Grade II-listed, 14th century public house including replacing the thatched roof which was extensively damaged in a fire that broke out in November 2021 and North Yorkshire Police believe was started deliberately. The investigation is ongoing.
The building also suffered water and smoke damage however documents reveal the amount of structural damage was “significantly less than feared”.
At the time several groups of people are believed to have been in the area and witnesses have been asked to contact North Yorkshire Police.
Pern celebrated 25 years at the Star at Harome last summer. The venue and its proprietors are triple Catey winners, having won Menu of the Year at the 1997 Cateys and the Newcomer Award the following year, while Andrew and Jacquie Pern won Pub and Bar Operator of the Year in 2002.
