Social Bite has partnered with the Glasgow-based coffee roaster to launch its first cafés within the UK education sector this coming academic year.
Homelessness charity Social Bite is set to open its first cafés within universities and colleges in partnership with Glasgow-based coffee roaster Matthew Algie.
The UK-wide project will launch during the 2024/25 academic year and will see around 10% of profits from the coffee sold going towards Social Bite.
Matthew Algie revealed it had already been in talks with several universities and colleges that are looking to participate in the initiative.
Each café will serve Matthe Algie’s Elevator blend, which uses beans from Sumatra, Peru, India and Tanzania.
Further details will be announced at the 2024 TUCO Summer Conference at the University of Exeter, which is being held later this month for in-house caterers in the higher, further education and public sector.
Mel Swan, commercial director at Social Bite, said: “This collaboration with Matthew Algie will help us drive awareness around the issues and raise funds to accelerate our work with people affected by homelessness, whether that’s a meal, supported employment or a safe place to call home.
“Matthew Algie has a great relationship with many large universities and colleges across the country and we’re over the moon that we can join forces.”
Raj Juneja, head of education at Matthew Algie, added: “We hope to bring the brand to our large network of cafés throughout the UK education system, helping raise awareness among a key audience while generating funds for the Social Bite cause.”
