Restaurant refurbishments boost like for like sales at Pizza Hut

Pizza Hut has credited a 6.2% increase in like-for-like sales on a brand wide refurbishment scheme that has seen the majority of its sites updated.

Turnover for the year to 29 November 2015 stood at at £225m, while profit before tax was £7.9m, down £1m on 2014. Pizza Hut said that the increase in like-for-like sales was due to the refurbishment of 130 of its 272 restaurants.

The refurbished restaurants are designed to emphasise the group's American heritage, and along with new menu items such as Philly cheese steak and pulled pork several locations include cocktail bars.

In July, Pizza Hut revealed its largest restaurant renovation in Ashford at the Eureka Leisure Park, costing £785,000. Over 70 more restaurants are due to be refurbished this year.

Pizza Hut director Adrian Walker said: "The refurbishment programme has brought a more contemporary design to the restaurants while also capturing the essence of our American heritage. Our well proven approach to the refurbishment programme has ensured that we continue to develop and evolve our restaurant design. The return on investment is well ahead of target and guest experience surveys are showing significant increase in overall satisfaction, value for money and intent to revisit within the next three months."

He added that over 75% of the total estate will have been reimaged by the end of 2016. During the period Pizza Hut closed 13 restaurants and plan to close four more underperforming restaurants by the end of 2016.
