Yorke Arms to relaunch next month

The Michelin-starred Yorke Arms in Ramsgill is set to reopen next month following a four-month closure for refurbishment.

Frances Atkins, the country's first female chef to win a Michelin star at the property in 2003 and one of only six female Michelin-starred chefs in the UK, will continue to oversee the food at the 16-bedroom restaurant with rooms in North Yorkshire following its sale to entrepreneur Jonathan Turner last year.

Atkins originally put the hotel up for sale with a price tag of around £1.75m and announced her intention to depart the business. However, following the sale, Atkins confirmed that she and her team would stay on at the 18th-century coaching house.

The Yorke Arms restaurant by Frances Atkins and the Little Dining Room are both complete, with the latter offering a relaxed dining experience and the restaurant showcasing Atkins' fine dining dishes. The newly-decorated bedrooms will reopen shortly after the restaurants.

Atkins said: "Jonathan's deep-rooted love of Yorkshire, his style and panache are very infectious and it really struck a chord with me. He has a genuine enthusiasm to create something even more special here and we hit it off straight away."

Turner added: "When I became aware that the Yorke Arms was up for sale I knew I had to buy it! As a Yorkshireman, I could not bear the thought of someone from out of town buying it. I want it to remain a destination restaurant, with Frances at the helm, and to retain the Yorkshire heritage."

The new-look restaurants and rooms will feature Yorkshire brands such as tweed from Abraham Moon, the last remaining vertical woollen mill in Great Britain, and silk from James Hare.
