Xavier Rousset and partners announce Old Brompton Wine & Cheese opening

Restaurateurs Steve Pineau and Xavier Rousset and cheese and charcuterie expert Phil Bartley have announced the opening of a new wine bar and delicatessen concept in London.

Opening on 14 April, the venue on Old Brompton Road, South Kensington, will be called the Old Brompton and will be largely European-influenced, with 250 wines selected by Pineau of L’atelier du Vin and master sommelier Rousset, founder of Cabotte and Blandford Comptoir. Both sommeliers were protegés of the late Gerard Basset.

The cheese and charcuterie selection brought to the table by Bartley, founder of GB Charcuterie and Curds & Whey, will showcase British charcuterie and up to 80 cheeses available for dine in or takeaway.

Rousset commented: "We are excited to be opening Old Brompton as the industry starts to open back up again. I believe the future is bright and that we will all support each other through partnerships and working as tighter communities."

Rousset's other sites with outdoor seating include Black Book, a late-night wine bar on Frith Street, Soho; Comptoir Blandford in Marylebone and Comptoir Cafe, in Weighhouse Street; and the Greenwich Kitchen on Peninsula Square, near the O2 (with 80 outside covers), which will all open from 12 April.

Cabotte on Gresham Street will reopen in May with no outdoor dining.

In addition to his restaurants, Rousset is behind Trade Hospitality, which was launched with his business partner Gearoid Devaney in 2019. The members' club became an app at the start of the pandemic and provides information on flat shares, perks and trade hospitality information.
