Letter from the editor: Why The Caterer has a paywall and why you should join the Gold Club

Firstly, welcome to The Caterer’s new website. Over the past 12 months, the team have developed a completely reimagined site with brand new content, features and functionality.

These include the ability to create an account to personalise your homepage, the articles you see and advertising based on your role and preferences.

We will also now make recommendations to help you discover the most valuable resources from The Caterer’s archive and the articles other people like you are reading.

We have introduced a suite of new Caterer Insight market trends reports, created in partnership with data company CGA. This includes the Hospitality Business Leaders Report, which surveyed 500 hospitality bosses on market trends, confidence, issues and opportunities.

Finally, a new weekly Inside Track column will see Robin Hutson, Joycelyn Neve, Shamil Thakrar, Wendy Bartlett and Neil Rankin give you an exclusive look behind the scenes of their businesses and their priorities for the year ahead.

One major change is that all articles on thecaterer.com will no longer be free to access.

Thousands of articles like news stories will remain free to view. For others, like viewpoints and some news, you will need to simply login with an email address and a few basic details to read them free of charge.

In order to read our most valuable features, exclusive news, insight reports and market analysis, you’ll need to subscribe as a premium member.

But what’s behind this change?

For the past 141 years, leaders in the UK Hospitality industry have turned to their weekly copy of The Caterer for the information, advice and inspirational case studies to help their business grow.

While thousands of you still favour the print magazine each week, almost half a million of you choose to consume The Caterer digitally each month, through our website, daily and weekly email briefings and social channels.

The changes we’ve made enable us to continue to invest in quality journalism and the market-leading product you love, but in the format that best suits your needs - be it print, digital, email or social.

It was important to us to keep the price point as accessible as possible to everyone in the hospitality industry.

For just 99p a week, you can get unrestricted access to The Caterer’s best digital content and a weekly digital copy of the magazine.

However, for those looking for even more powerful tools to grow their business, we have created The Caterer Gold Club. For just £3.43 per week, you can get unrestricted digital access plus a print copy of the magazine delivered to your door each week and access to The Caterer Insight series of market trends reports.

I hope you love the new website as much as we do. We’ve built it around your needs and giving you all the tools to grow your business and your career. Take a look around, set up your free profile and let us know what you think.
