The latest auction will feature furniture and memorabilia from suites named after the hotel’s famous guests.
Over 1,800 pieces of furniture, drapery and art from the Savoy in London are set to be auctioned off ahead of an extensive refurbishment.
The adjacent Simpson’s in the Strand, which is owned by the Savoy and is one of London’s oldest restaurants, also sold its memorabilia through an auction last year.
The latest auction will include items from the Personality Suites, which have been named after hotel’s past celebrity guests such as Frank Sinatra and Noel Coward.
Further contents from the hotel’s 267 rooms and suites will also be available to purchase, including Edwardian and Art Deco-style mirrors, sofas, art, silk drapery, tables, chairs and lighting fixtures.
Simon Rose, auction director at Pro Auction, the company responsible for the sale, said: “This is a landmark event for both the Savoy and us.
"The Savoy is synonymous with luxury, with history, with prestige, with lifestyle. So many good reasons for enthusiasts from around the world to take part in the auction sale and acquire a little bit of the Savoy’s magic.”
The auction will be held in the Savoy’s ballroom, with a live sale and webcast scheduled to take place on 8 August at 10am.
The Savoy first opened on the Strand in 1889. It was acquired by Fairmont Hotels and Resorts in 2005, which was subsequently sold to Accor.
