The Chestnut Group adds two new inns to portfolio

The Chestnut Group has added two new properties in East Anglia to its portfolio, taking it to a total of nine inns.

The company has purchased the Weeping Willow, near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, and the Eight Bells in Saffron Walden, Essex, to its group of country and coastal inns.

The Weeping Willow is a 16th-century pub, which was restored and expanded in 2017.

Grade-II-listed the Eight Bells, which dates from the 15th century, incorporates a bar, private dining area and 60-cover restaurant. Externally, there is a patio to the side and a raised decking area for 50 covers to the rear.

Christie & Co had sought an asking price of £185,000 for the leasehold interest of the Eight Bells.

The Chestnut Group was founded in 2012 by Philip Turner. Its properties include the Packhorse Inn near Newmarket; the Rupert Brooke on the outskirts of Cambridge; the Northgate in Bury St Edmunds; the Black Lion in Long Melford; the Westleton Crown in Westleton; the Ship at Dunwich and the Blackbirds Inn in Woodditton.
