Teflon non-stick coating has announced the launch of its 2020 Diamond Standards Awards.
The cookery competition is open to amateur chefs of all ages, including those attending schools or catering colleges looking to showcase what they've learnt.
The competition has three categories, ‘keen young cooks' for those aged between 12 and 16; ‘aspiring student chefs', for 16- to 19-year-olds and ‘keen home cooks' for those aged 17 and over.
Both ‘keen young cook' and ‘aspiring student chef' entrants will be asked to submit and cook a signature dish, although for those in the older category this should have a twist. ‘Keen home cooks' will be asked to submit and cook their signature dinner party menu.
The winning student and young cook will be put forward for a prestigious three-year specialised chef scholarship, arranged by the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and managed by Bournemouth and Poole College.
Home cooks will compete for a luxury hamper. In addition winners will receive Teflon™ non-stick coated cookware and equipment from sponsors as well as cash prizes of up to £500. Sponsors include Circulon® and Thermapen® as well as BonChef® and The Caterer.
Entries close on 31 October 2019 with shortlisted finalists cooking at the Keen Young Cook and Aspiring Student Chef National Final scheduled for Monday 3 February 2020 at Bournemouth and Poole College and the Keen Home Cook National Final scheduled for Wednesday 29 January 2020 at the Waitrose Cookery School, London.
