Liquidators revealed the future of the 48-bedroom hotel in Leicestershire “remains uncertain”.
All staff at Stapleford Park in Leicestershire were made redundant after the hotel and wedding venue went into liquidation.
The 48-bedroom hotel first opened in 1988 and resided in a Grade I-listed mansion surrounded by 500 acres of parkland. In 2008, it shut its doors temporarily for a £1.7m refurbishment.
The hotel closed unexpectedly last month, having reportedly cancelled its remaining bookings with minimal notice.
Alex Cadwallader and Neil Bennett of Leonard Curtis were appointed joint liquidators of Stapleford Park Limited on 28 October 2024.
The liquidators revealed the hotel had made numerous “efforts to reach profitability” through management partnerships and investment from shareholders, all of which failed to generate the turnover required for the business to continue.
The company employed 92 members of staff, who were all made redundant during the liquidation process and subsequently advised to contact the Redundancy Payments Service.
It did not own the property, with liquidators adding “the future of the hotel remains uncertain at this stage”.
Alex Cadwallader said: “Our priority was to ensure the most orderly wind-down of trading possible. Significant efforts were made to communicate with and re-locate the guests that were staying at the hotel, which was at approximately 50% occupancy.
“Leonard Curtis attended the site and worked closely with front of house staff to make this possible, and the wider group also met some essential costs to limit the impact on guests and future bookings. However we fully appreciate that some guests will have been adversely impacted.”
Documents filed on Companies House showed the hotel had made a loss before tax of £845,071 in the year ended 31 March 2022.
