Four 12-year-old girls have sustained “potentially life-changing burns” following an incident at a Wendy’s restaurant in Brighton.
Sussex Police confirmed the girls remain in hospital at this time (1 November).
Three fire engines, an aerial appliance and specialist officers attended the site on Western Road after the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service were alerted of the incident, which started last night (31 October).
A spokesperson for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the cause was “accidental”, reiterating that “fireworks were not involved”, contrary to initial reports.
No arrests have been made, while enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire.
A spokesperson for Sussex Police added: “While we are not seeking anyone else in connection with the incident, anyone with any information is asked to report it online or call 101, quoting serial 1241 of 31/10.”
