Sholto Smith appointed GM of Great Scotland Yard hotel

Sholto Smith has been appointed general manager of Hyatt's Great Scotland Yard hotel, due to open later in the summer.

More details of the hotel's food and beverage offering, which will be overseen by restaurateur Robin Gill, have also been revealed. Central to the offering will be the Yard, a modern British restaurant. Cocktail bar the Forty Elephants - named after a notorious all-female gang of thieves who were active throughout the 19th and 20th centuries - will celebrate off-beat, underground London. Portraits of the gang members etched in glass will adorn the walls.

Modern tearoom the Parlour, with a design inspired by the Imperial hotel in Delhi, India, will have a colonial, classic feel. The more intimate Sibín bar will offer a menu of limited-edition whiskeys, while in the hotel's basement Grace and Favour is a collection of apartment-style event spaces.

Smith said: "I am thrilled to be opening Great Scotland Yard as part of the Unbound Collection by Hyatt. Not only as this is the first in the UK, but also due to the collaboration with chef-extraordinaire Robin Gill, who promises to deliver an amazing and truly one-of-a-kind food and beverage offering like no other hotel in London."

The 152-bedroom hotel, located near to Covent Garden, will be the first in the UK operating under Hyatt's Unbound Collection. The opening will follow a £75m renovation project of the Grade II-listed property, which was once the headquarters of the Metropolitan Police.
