Great Scotland Yard to be first Hyatt Unbound hotel in UK

The Great Scotland Yard hotel in London is set to be the first UK hotel to join Hyatt's Unbound Collection.

Located in the St James's area of Westminster, the Grade II-listed building is being developed into a 153-bedroom luxury lifestyle hotel and is expected to open at the end of this year.

The hotel was originally due to open in 2016 as a 235-bedroom property operated by Morgans Hotel Group under its Hudson brand. Later American hotel operator Andre Balazs was said to be involved.

It was then announced in 2015 that German hotel group Steigenberger would enter the UK for the first time and take over the management of the property

Investment firm Twenty14 Holdings, the hospitality investment arm of LuLu Group, still owns the property, however Steigenberger is no longer involved.

Hyatt's Unbound Collection was created in 2016 and is a collection of upper-upscale and luxury, individual hotel properties. The brand currently operates in the USA, Canada and Uruguay.

The historical character of the former Metropolitan police headquarters, built in 1910, will be preserved throughout the renovation, including the maintenance of its original faÁ§ade. Once open, the hotel will feature "sophisticated" food and beverage outlets.

Peter Norman, senior vice president, acquisitions and development - Europe, Africa and Middle East (EAME) and Southwest Asia for Hyatt, said: "The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand offers tremendous potential for growth in the European market. This brand enables us to team up with new owners and developers and furthers the foundation they've developed with their individual hotel brands."

Hyatt Hotels Corporation, headquartered in Chicago, has a portfolio of more than 700 properties in more than 50 countries across 14 brands.
