Second Bierschenke to open next week ahead of wider growth plans

A second Bierschenke is set to open in London's Tower Hill next week, nine years after the original and the first of a planned brand growth spurt.

Following an £800,000 investment into the site, the 400-capacity, Munich beer hall-style venue will open on 27 June, joining the original at London Wall. Two more sites are already under negotiation.

Like the original, the new 6,000 sq ft site will feature traditional beer tables, staff dressed in dirndls and lederhosen, German food such as schnitzels and sausages, and German beer served in traditional stein glasses, with a live oom-pah band every Saturday.

Bierschenke's four craft brews come from Müllerbräu of Neuötting, a family-owned Bavarian craft beer brewery established in 1768.

Gerry Hanratty, owner of Bierschenke, said: "Bierschenke was created to bring an authentic Bavarian experience to the city of London; we have respect for their tradition and cultural importance of good food and drink; it's the Bierschenke way. Since the opening of our London Wall site, we have experienced huge demand to extend our presence further and are currently in negotiations for two more sites."

Further expansion plans are set to take place for the brand "in the near future".
